Spaghetti With Meatballs In Sweet Sauce And A Trip to Big Orange Pumpkin Patch Plus Avery® Giveaway Winner

Last week, Ryan & I got to chaperone Cherlin's class to The Big Orange Pumpkin Patch in Celina, TX for Robertson Elementary's Kindergarten Field Trip. It was so much fun indeed!
The cute hay bales...
the hay ride...
picking their own pumpkin from the patch...
feeding the animals...
and simply hanging out with their family and classmates...
truly gave each of the kindergarteners a great and memorable time! They really had a blast!
Aside from all these, Cherlin said that riding the bus and eating her favorite food with her friends, and her mom & dad made her first field trip more special. :)
For lunch, Cherlin requested me to bring Spaghetti with Meatballs in Sweet Sauce which I cooked the night before. It is basically the same as my Filipino Spaghetti but instead of red hotdogs and ground beef, it has meat balls in it. The meatballs I used here have the same ingredients as my Beef Balls in Mushroom Sauce, the only difference is that I used pork because I ran out of beef. :)

The sweetness of Filipino-style spaghetti brings sweet smiles to Cherlin's face all the time. Try it! I'm sure it can do the same thing to your kids...

Ingredients:
  • 2 lbs. spaghetti, cooked al dente
For the meatballs:
  • 1 lb ground beef or pork
  • 1 medium-sized red onion, minced
  • 6 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 eggs, beaten
  • ½ cup plain bread crumbs
  • 1 tsp Herbs de Provence
  • 1 Tbsp Worcestershire
For the sauce:
  • 2 cans Hunt’s Spaghetti Sauce (26.5oz each) - I used 1 Garlic & Herbs and 1 Four Cheese
  • 1 cup Filipino Banana Catsup
  • 1 beef cube
  • 1 medium-sized onion, minced
  • 1 head garlic, minced
  • ¾ cup brown sugar
  • 1 cup evaporated milk
  • ½ cup grated parmesan cheese
  • ½ cup grated cheddar cheese
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Procedure:
1. In a bowl combine ground beef, minced onion, garlic, bread crumbs, egg, Herbs de Provence, Worcestershire, 1 tsp salt and ¼ tsp black pepper. Mix until well combined. Roll into 1 inch diameter balls.
2. In a large skillet over medium heat, fry meatballs in olive oil until brown. Remove from pan and set aside.
3. In the same skillet, add garlic and onion and sauté until onion is almost translucent.
4. Add beef cube and keep stirring until it melts.
5. Add the meatballs. Mix well with other ingredients.
 6. Pour the spaghetti sauce and catsup.  Bring to a  boil and simmer for 10 minutes.
7. Add sugar. Simmer for 3 minutes.
8. Add milk, parmesan and cheddar cheese. Add salt and pepper to suit your taste. While stirring, continue to simmer for 5 more minutes.
9. On a plate, top spaghetti pasta with sauce and sprinkle with cheddar or parmessan cheese. Enjoy!

  14. My search for Filipino spaghetti sauce is finally over! I have been looking for a Filipino-style spaghetti that is similar to what my baby-sitter used to make when I was younger, and I think yours tasted almost exactly the same (except, she added sliced hotdogs which was kind of weird..LOL)Thanks for this recipe; my son and husband enjoyed it also.
